"Loss of functional voltage-gated sodium channels in
persistent mumps virus-infected PC12 cells" by
Stauffer provides proof that cells persistently
infected with mumps virus were found to directly
alter voltage-gated sodium channels. These findings
are consistent with Parainfluenza Virus-5 (PIV-5), a
rubulavirus related to mumps, and the alterations to
the sodium ion channel.
