" by Stauffer provides proof that cells persistently infected with mumps virus were found to directly alter voltage-gated sodium channels.  These findings are consistent with Parainfluenza Virus-5 (PIV-5), a rubulavirus related to mumps, and the alterations to the sodium ion channel.
