Scientists create new animal model for Parainfluenza Virus-5 infection - A synopsis (12/07)

NCF News Release about the Homeland Security Initiative announcement regarding Parainfluenza Virus-5 (PIV-5) including a pdf file of the Homeland Security Initiative website content. (9/20/07)

"Mumps virus-induced alterations in cellular excitability during persistent infections" by Ziegler describes the role of persistent mumps virus infections in chronic neurological and/or mental disease. (9/20/07)

"Loss of functional voltage-gated sodium channels in persistent mumps virus-infected PC12 cells" by Stauffer provides proof that cells persistently infected with mumps virus were found to directly alter voltage-gated sodium channels. These findings are consistent with Parainfluenza Virus-5 (PIV-5), a rubulavirus related to mumps, and the alterations to the sodium ion channel. (9/20/07)
